In Suki’s case, CAT’s Meet Your Match program was more like Seniors Meeting Seniors when a new CAT volunteer fell in love with her. Suki was the oldest CAT at the shelter to be adopted in 2011.
Adopting Suki, a very senior Siamese snowshoe kitty (15½ years old), was a no-brainer for me. The last cats in our household, brothers, were with us for 14 and 18 years, and my extended family has always hosted seniors. Also I am a senior myself, and we complement each other perfectly. Senior kitties are special! Unfortunately, in the shelter, they’re often the most needy and most stressed of the cats - their very presence in the shelter in their final years is an indication they’re going through hard times, just when they’re least capable of handling the changes.
For older cats, abandonment or loss of their humans is especially fearful. Senior kitties are so grateful and happy to again have their own home and own humans. Being able to provide a senior kitty with her own permanent patch of sun, a corner of the bed, and a warm lap is incredibly satisfying. And at the very end, when things are desperate, the elderly cat will have all the comfort possible and the love of someone she trusts, and that’s something for which we all wish.
Suki joined my household quite by chance, but indirectly it was Suki who introduced me to Cat Adoption Team in the first place, a half year earlier.
Lowry S. (Nov 2011)
I brought these great siblings home in early June 2011.
Pelé is the brother and Kiko is the sister. Their foster names were Simba and Minnie.
(NOTE: we had to include all three photos Joe sent since the one of Pelé with the soccer ball is just too adorable. A Portland Timber fan in the making - that is if felines can be MLS fans)
They are very lively and energetic.
CAT has been great!

It’s hard being a black cat in an animal shelter.
Overlooked for the cute calico next door or the beautiful orange tabby.
Serendipity intervened for Newbie, a big black cat who blossomed when her someone special found her at an offsite adoption center.
Fostering creates a unique and lasting bond of the heart for our volunteers.
When two little furry siblings were finally ready to find their permanent family, it was their foster mom who advocated the hardest for them and found them both the best home she could have hoped for.
Kiya, a cat with attitude, was as sweet as she was beautiful.
Sweet, if you understood her quirky nature and propensity to swat at the hand that was petting her.
She became the favorite of a volunteer at one of CAT’s offsite adoption centers.
Her love story began with a failed adoption.
Hi CAT
This past December (2010) marked our second year with our fabulous little Bailey. He’s a wonderful addition to our family and we’re so lucky to have him with us.
Bailey loves water and has trained US to give him drinks from a dripping faucet… however, we have been unable to train HIM to turn the faucet OFF when he is done!
He also has the most animated tail of any cat we’ve ever known! It is constantly whipping from side to side, just like the tail of an eager puppy. It’s a hoot to watch!
Thank you, everyone at CAT, for providing a fabulous environment to care for and showcase animals in need.
We were lovingly told when we adopted Bailey that we were “saving two lives” ~ Bailey’s and the cat for whom a space was now available.

Dear CAT:
Our kittens are bonding with us and a complete joy! Gucci (tuxedo) and Louis (tabby) sleep and play together.
Gucci purrs a lot and likes to cuddle on laps if anyone is sitting still. He enjoys being carried around the house. He shows good kitty hunting techniques and will try to outsmart the laser pointer…hiding and springing out at it. Gucci usually instigates the wrestling and tag sessions with Louis. He appears to be the more dominate kitten.
Louis loves to be on your chest or under your chin… purring. He loves the petting from head to tail and will put his head under your hand and push up, encouraging you to keep petting if you stop. Louis is more of the follower—whatever Gucci does Louis will go along with it. If Gucci takes off exploring in the house, Louis will meow and call out to him and then sprint to where he is at. If he can’t find Gucci he is content to be with one of us. Louis is not as sharp or quick when it comes to playing with toys. He’ll watch Gucci and half-heartedly join in. If they start wrestling or playing tag…. then Louis and Gucci are more equals.
My twins are doing a good job of loving and caring for their kittens. The boys have taken to what they call “kitty-time”.... one on one play time or cuddle time with their kittens. I refer to them as “kitty daddys” because they brag about what newest trick or funny/cute thing their kittens have done with their friends.
Everyone is shocked to hear that the only thing my boys wanted for Christmas were these kittens. Especially because they are 6’-3” and 6’-5”, 17 year olds, who are big and tough, athletic type of boys who play high school Varsity football and basketball.
We are enjoying our new members of our family and we love them very much.

Although she appeared depressed when I met her at CAT, Miss Morgan consented to come home with me. She is 9 years old and has been at CAT for over three years. Morgan was featured in CAT’s fall donation appeal letter.
On arriving home, I took her to the master bath. I was told she liked dripping faucets, it was easy to accommodate that request and she immediately jumped in the sink. We chatted for about 10 minutes until she got that bored look – so I left her alone to contemplate. After several trips in and out like this, she decided to purr and rub against my leg. This too got boring for her, so she dismissed me. Undaunted, I returned later and she let me pet her under the chin.
Hi everyone at CAT
I wanted to send an update to let you know they are happy, content all the time, and very well loved they are. They spend most of the day hanging out, sleeping snuggled up either on one of our kids’ beds or in my chair. When I brought them home they immediately went to town making themselves a home. These cats (adopted December 2009) are so loved and so happy to be here. Thank you so much for suggesting we adopt both of them, I don’t know what we would do without them both. They light up our days!
