Unpaid Intern for PR/Development
Shelter Associate (full-time)
Duties
Work closely with the Development and PR managers to sustain and increase funding from the public and private entities; maximize positive public exposure for the organization; create unique opportunities for public outreach; and increase adoption of cats.
Core Areas
Donor Development
Identifying corporate sponsors for events, donor cultivation/recognition activities.
Special Events
Plan and execute numerous special events to generate funds and increase public awareness of CAT.
Manage volunteers, plan event logistics, attend day of activities.
Assist with promotion.
Qualifications
•Business administration, marketing, communications degree work/experience
•Strong project management, organization, and planning skills
•High degree of flexibility and ability to juggle multiple tasks and competing priorities
•Strong writing and editing skills
•Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
•Proficiency with Microsoft software and ability to learn database programs easily
•Prior clerical or administrative support experience
•Able to lift and move up to 30 lbs, bend and carry items, standing for long periods, walking short distances, not afraid to get dirty
•Love of cats and an enthusiasm for CAT’s mission
•Flexible schedule; ability to work weekends
•Excellent customer service and ‘people’/phone skills
•Motivated to work and solve any challenges that present themselves

CAT is currently seeking a full-time Shelter Associate.
Qualified candidates for this position should have flexibility for occasional schedule changes and should have a strong desire to work extensively with the public. The candidate should also have a good understanding of cat health and behavior.
The Shelter Associate is responsible for caring for our cats and helping the public (adopters, clients, fosters parents, and volunteers). He/She will work with all staff members and volunteers to help CAT succeed in its mission of adopting out healthy cats and kittens to loving homes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Project the professional image of our organization in dealing with adopters, clients, foster parents, and volunteers.
• Provide client education and excellent service to clients, foster parents, volunteers, and other customers as needed.
• Maintain a professional appearance and standard of cleanliness in the facility. This includes all cat/kitten care, organizational maintenance, laundry, and janitorial work in the shelter.
• Answer the phone and return messages in a timely manner.
• Process all financial transactions in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
• Perform adoption counseling.
• Screen medical calls and schedule appointments for veterinary hospital.
• Ensure that retail store is stocked and product faced.
• Work closely and cooperatively with each and every other staff member.
• Uphold the policies and procedures of CAT, utilizing this foundation from which to solve daily issues and problems in order to achieve organizational goals.
• Other duties as necessary or assigned
Experience desired:
• 1 year professional experience
• Prior shelter or animal control experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve and multi-task
• Customer service experience desired
• Previous experience working within a volunteer organization
Skills desired:
• Proven customer service experience
• Fostering teamwork, managing multiple tasks, etc
• Computer knowledge (Microsoft office, Impromed, etc)
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment
• Exceptional planning and organizational skills a must
